Call for Papers

Rome, Italy, May 20-21, 2011

The conference is to be held at LUISS University in Rome and themed on “leadership”. The conference will run through Friday 20th and Saturday 21st May 2011. We now invite abstracts for papers. As well as 200 word summary of the paper, these should include: full name and title, institutional affiliation and email address. While the conference is themed, we invite papers dealing with any aspect of the relationship between media and politics. Confirmed keynote speakers: Brian McNair, Sara Bentivegna, Nico Carpentier, Fausto Colombo, Raffaele De Mucci, Sergio Fabbrini, Ivor Gaber, Matthew Hibberd, Michael Higgins, Edoardo Novelli, Jo Silvester, Mick Temple, Dario E. Viganò, Katrin Voltmer.
The deadline for abstracts is March 15th 2011. Successful proposers will be notified by the last week of March.
English will be the only working language of the Conference.

Deadline for Early Bird registration: March 15th 2010
Deadline for late registration: May 13th 2010

Subscription fees. Early bird registration students: € 95; Early bird others: € 120
Late registration students: € 150; Late registration others: € 200.
Registration fee includes all the coffee/tea breaks, May 20th lunch,a welcome reception and the conference kit.

Al convegno – che ha visto la partecipazione (fra gli altri) di Michael Higgins (Visiting Professor LUISS), Mick Temple, Ivor Gaber, Liesbeth Van Zoonen, James Stanyer, Gianpietro Mazzoleni, due grandi “padri” della comunicazione politica come Colin Seymour-Ure e Jay Blumler -  ha partecipato il CMCS, con un apprezzatissimo paper di Emiliana De Blasio (Italian Left facing the Global Crisis) e con il direttore, Michele Sorice, che ha in quella sede ufficialmente lanciato il convegno “Leadership”, che si terrà nel prossimo maggio presso la sede LUISS di viale Romania.

The annual conference of the Media and Politics Group of the Political Studies Association is to be held at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow and themed on “trust”. The conference runs through Thursday 5th and Friday 6th November, and will include a welcome reception on the Wednesday night.

We now invite abstracts for papers. As well as a 200 word summary of the paper, these should include: full name and title, institutional affiliation and email address. While the conference is themed, we invite papers dealing with any aspect of the relationship between media and politics.

The deadline for abstracts is Friday 12 June. Successful proposers will be notified by the end of June.

At the conference, the Group will be awarding its annual James Thomas Prize for the most outstanding paper by a graduate student. We would be grateful if applicants would let us know if they intend to submit their paper for this award.

In June 2009 European citizens will elect a new European Parliament, some of them who joined the European Union only recently for the first time. 2009 will also see numerous national elections throughout Europe. The Political Communication section will take this important election year in Europe as an opportunity to revisit one of the key issues of political communication research – how democratic participation is shaped and transformed by processes of mediatisation and what consequences this has for the nature of contemporary citizenship.
